Reaching the peoples of Peru with God's Word
"Runa Simi" is the language of the Quechua people - the largest ethnic group in South America. They live near the Andes Mountains, in places like Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina.
Although once a great empire, their history is filled with many challenges. European contact and conquest in the 15th century, many died of infectious disease, genocide, human exploitation, and forced labor.
Runa Simi (the organization) was founded in 1979 with the goal of taking the Gospel to every corner of the "Tawantinsuyo" or Quechua World. In 1987, the Ayacucho Quechua Bible was published and dedicated. Today, they continue in their vision of reaching all of the peoples of Peru with God's Word in their own mother tongues.
Runa Simi accomplishes this goal through the following methods:
- Translation: Translating Bible based materials
- Discipleship: Training local pastors and leaders
- Evangelism: Sharing the good news about Jesus throughout Peru
- Literacy: Teaching Quechua women to read with Bible based materials
- Children and Youth: Enabling students to reach their peers
- Communications: Promoting scripture through audio and video productions
- Women's Ministry: Promoting, valuing, and encouraging the native and Quechua women
- Medical: Sponsoring teams to serve on short term medical outreach to communities in need
